Capcom has recently made waves with Resident Evil, with releases coming nearly annually and even being made available on VR and mobile platforms, expanding the franchise’s scope further than before. Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise continues its steady march toward expansion thanks to frequent releases as well as regular ports onto VR devices and mobile platforms.
Craig Burnatowski responded to The Game Awards post asking about their most anticipated PlayStation game and hinted towards development of a new Resident Evil title.
Craig Burnatowski has become most well known for playing Albert Wesker in Resident Evil Remake and Separate Ways as well as Resident Evil Outbreak 2003, although not limited to that franchise; other projects that he worked on include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion or The Division 2.
Capcom has long been speculated to be working on either Resident Evil 5 or Code Veronica remakes; with Resident Evil 5 looking most likely given Burnatowski’s response. Given their successful remakes for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, Capcom seems committed to continuing this trend.
Capcom has not yet revealed their next undertaking in the Resident Evil franchise and probably won’t do so for a while. The company has been occupied with developing Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake for iOS, as well as the upcoming release of Resident Evil 4 Remake Gold Edition on February 9, 2024. It is also possible that Resident Evil 9 could be released before another remake, as there are rumors circulating about a potential 2025 release, as shared by well-known Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem.
According to a recent post by Dusk Golem, Capcom is currently developing five fresh Resident Evil games, including Resident Evil 9. The individual who leaked this information also revealed that one of these games is not expected to be released until the end of 2026 or early 2027. As with all leaks, it is important to approach this news with skepticism. However, it should be noted that Dusk Golem has proven to be reliable in the past, which gives this leak some credibility within the community.
